British Gas, together with Toyota, has announced the debut of Toyota HomeCharge, a sophisticated domestic charging solution crafted specifically for Toyota’s range of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. This venture represents Toyota’s initial entry into the domestic charging arena, poised to transform the electric vehicle (EV) ownership landscape.
From April 3 to July 1, 2024, Toyota retail customers purchasing new electric cars or vans will receive a complimentary charging setup. This package includes the installation of the ABB Terra 3 home charger and maintenance service performed by certified British Gas engineers.
Post-promotion, Toyota HomeCharge will be available for £1,095 at all authorized Toyota centers across the nation, with installations commencing in May.

The integration of Toyota HomeCharge with Toyota’s digital platforms ensures a streamlined charging process. Users can orchestrate their charging sessions via the MyToyota app, setting personalized schedules to leverage lower energy costs.
Kim Royds, Centrica’s Head of Mobility, highlighted the strategic alliance’s role in fostering EV uptake: “Access to at-home charging remains one of the key barriers to electric vehicle adoption and our long-term partnership with Toyota is designed to tackle this. The vehicle manufacturer has trusted us to work collaboratively to develop products and solutions that will give their customers greater control over their electrification experience. British Gas has the extensive experience and depth of technical resources to provide a trusted installation and support service as we roll out this important new product.”
Additionally, British Gas and Hive are offering innovative, economical tariffs, such as SmartCharge, labeled as the UK’s most affordable EV charging method. This effort addresses key obstacles in EV adoption, chiefly the accessibility of convenient charging solutions.
This strategic partnership, now extending over three years, has already seen the installation of over 1,500 Hive EV chargers in the residences of Toyota and Lexus customers across the UK, underscoring the commitment of both entities to augment the EV infrastructure.
