Breaking new ground in e-vehicle urban mobility, BMW Motorrad has unveiled its latest creation, the CE 02, dubbed as an ‘eParkourer’. This urban runabout e-vehicle stands out as neither an e-scooter nor an e-motorcycle, but a new breed of transportation designed to provide a dynamic and enjoyable ride in urban settings.
Following the launch of the CE 04 two years ago, the new CE 02 targets young urban riders. Its design emphasizes practicality, nimbleness, and robustness, stripping back to the essentials while maintaining a sleek aesthetic. The vehicle features large wheels, ensuring durability and fun across varied terrains, and sports a matte black frame, contrasted with granite grey metallic matt for the engine cover, offering a blend of matte and high-gloss surfaces. In a further flamboyant twist, a special ‘Highline’ version offers a more extroverted and colorful design.
The CE 02 is no slouch in the power department. Its maximum output reaches 11 kW (15 hp), and its powerful drive enables it to accelerate swiftly at traffic lights for a dynamic urban riding experience. In Germany, a 4 kW (5 hp) (rated power 3.2 kW (4 hp)) version, limited to a speed of 45 kph, is available for riders from the age of 15 or those with a car license.
Lightweight and low-seated, the CE 02 offers playful handling with a top speed of 95 kph. It weighs in at just 132 kg (11 kW version) or 119 kg (4 kW version) and features a seat height of only 750 mm. Its 90 km range (11 kW version according to WMTC) ensures long-lasting urban adventures.
BMW Motorrad provides the CE 02 with ‘Flow’ and ‘Surf’ riding modes as standard. The ‘Flow’ mode optimizes cruising in urban traffic, whereas ‘Surf’ offers a dynamic experience beyond the city bustle. Additionally, the ‘Flash’ riding mode is available as part of the optional Highline equipment, providing a sportier and more dynamic ride.
The CE 02 is equipped with an external charger of 0.9 kW power, allowing swift and convenient charging via standard household sockets. The vehicle’s structure relies on a torsionally rigid double-loop frame made of tubular steel with hydraulically damped telescopic forks at the front and a single-sided swingarm and directly pivoted shock absorber at the rear. Wide tyres on light alloy wheels and disc brakes ensure a safe ride, supported by the BMW Motorrad ABS system at the front.
The CE 02 boasts a TFT display for essential information like speed and battery status, along with a USB-C socket for charging smartphones. Thanks to the BMW Motorrad Connected app, riders can conveniently check the predicted end of charging via Bluetooth, mirroring functionality seen in the BMW CE 04.
BMW Motorrad’s innovative CE 02 represents a new frontier in urban e-vehicles, with its unique blend of robustness, practicality, and playful dynamism promising to reshape city mobility.
