BlackBerry has announced a strategic move to rename its ‘BlackBerry IoT’ division as ‘QNX,’ relaunching the iconic brand to reinforce its position as a leader in the automotive and embedded industries. The decision, shaped by input from stakeholders, highlights the brand’s storied history and its evolving role in powering next-generation Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs) and mission-critical systems.
“Relaunching the QNX brand is key to strengthening our visibility and leadership within these industries, positioning us for sustained growth,” said John J. Giamatteo, CEO of BlackBerry. He emphasised that the brand relaunch honours QNX’s legacy while driving innovation in smarter, safer, and faster systems.
With 45 years of expertise in embedded software, QNX technology powers over 255 million vehicles and a wide array of critical systems, including medical devices, industrial controls, and robotics. The division’s rich intellectual property portfolio and collaborations with leading technology companies have positioned it to address the growing demand for advanced hybrid cloud and edge computing capabilities.
“QNX is at a pivotal moment, ready to capitalise on trends driving a software-defined future,” said Mattias Eriksson, President of QNX. He highlighted the division’s strong foundations, extensive partner network, and focus on innovation, ensuring its continued leadership in the industry.
The QNX brand relaunch includes a refreshed logo, updated website, and a new tagline, “It all starts here,” reflecting the foundational role QNX plays in critical software-defined systems. The updated visual identity incorporates a modern colour palette, typography, and iconography to convey its performance-driven and future-focused ethos.
The revitalised brand will make its official debut at CES 2025, where QNX will showcase its full suite of automotive solutions from January 7–10 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Founded in 1980 as Quantum Software Systems, QNX has been at the forefront of real-time operating systems, powering mission-critical applications worldwide. Over the decades, it has launched revolutionary platforms such as QNX 4, QNX Neutrino RTOS, and most recently, the QNX Software Development Platform 8.0. These innovations have cemented QNX as a cornerstone of the automotive and IoT industries.
