Audi inaugurates a novel charging hub on Frankfurt’s Orber Straße, catering to electric vehicles from any manufacturer. This hub boasts four high-power charging (HPC) stations, enabling rapid charging at up to 320 kW. Next to this modern facility, visitors can immerse themselves in Klassikstadt Frankfurt, a venue celebrated for its collection of vintage and contemporary classic cars, housed within a heritage-listed factory. Here, guests can savor a variety of snacks, beverages, and hot meals in a stylish and comfortable environment while their vehicles charge.
Marking Audi’s sixth venture into charging hubs, this Frankfurt installment stands out for its commitment to accessibility. Innovations such as a patented swivel arm significantly reduce the charging cable’s weight by approximately 60%, simplifying the charging process for individuals with disabilities, including wheelchair users. This design ensures universal access to charging ports, negates the need for vehicle repositioning, and features automatic cable retraction to keep pathways clear and dry.
Frankfurt City Councillor Stephanie Wüst highlights the strategic value of this charging hub, situated within a region teeming with electric vehicles and an expanding network of charging stations. Offering a unique blend of convenience and leisure, the hub meets the charging needs of drivers, especially those unable to charge at home or work, and enriches the waiting time with the adjacent Klassikstadt experience.
Anticipating substantial usage, Audi projects about 5,000 annual charging operations at the Frankfurt site, mirroring the high return customer rate observed at other Audi charging hubs, like the one in Nuremberg. Audi’s approach includes the innovative use of second-life batteries from disassembled test vehicles, enabling efficient energy storage and use without the necessity for additional power infrastructure, capable of supporting uninterrupted charging for numerous vehicles.
Further enhancing customer support, Audi introduces a virtual assistance service, proven effective in Berlin and Munich trials. This service offers real-time help and advice via camera, ensuring smooth charging sessions and facilitating payment processes and Plug & Charge setup through a dedicated hotline. This initiative underscores Audi’s foresight in addressing the accessibility challenges within the EV charging ecosystem.
