Audi Australia has scrapped its plans to introduce the all-electric A6 e-tron and S6 e-tron models in the country, citing a ‘strategic realignment.’
Audi Australia confirmed that the 2026 Audi A6 e-tron and S6 e-tron, which debuted in Europe in mid-2024, will not be launched in Australia.
“After careful consideration and thorough evaluation, we have decided not to introduce the A6 e-tron or S6 e-tron model to the Australian market at this time,” an Audi spokesperson for the German marque’s Australian division told CarExpert.
The spokesperson explained that the decision also mirrors challenges Audi is facing in other markets, where sales of its electric luxury cars have been slower than expected.
This likely doesn’t mark the exit of Audi’s electric models in Australia, as the company said it will continue to monitor market trends and remains open to ‘revisiting the possibility of introducing the A6 e-tron or a variant thereof in the future.’

The A6 e-tron was initially scheduled to launch in Australia during the first half of 2025, but its arrival in local showrooms faced delays.
The model was anticipated to come in both Sportback liftback and Avant wagon body styles, featuring a long-range, rear-wheel-drive Performance version alongside the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive S6 variant. Built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), the A6 e-tron shares its architecture with the Audi Q6 e-tron and Porsche Macan electric SUVs.
Jeff Mannering, managing director of Audi Australia, noted that although other PPE-based models like the Q6 e-tron have reached Australian showrooms, the large luxury passenger segment remains too niche for most buyers in the country.
Audi Australia stated in a media release that the decision was influenced by several factors, notably the low demand for large luxury electric sedans.
