Continental’s latest venture at its Otrokovice tire plant – a fully automated high-bay warehouse is a pioneering stride in the realm of logistics and environmental consciousness. This facility, comparable in stature to the iconic Statue of Liberty, showcases an impressive blend of technological innovation and commitment to green practices.
Spanning 10,000 square meters, the warehouse boasts the capability to house upwards of 930,000 tires. Its unique design features high racks and compact aisles, facilitating both vertical and horizontal storage. Robots, tasked with tire dispatch, navigate this space, maneuvering pallet-stored tires with unparalleled precision and efficiency.
Dr. Bernhard Trilken, Head of Manufacturing and Logistics at Continental Tires, articulated the dual advantages of this project during its inauguration.“With our fully automated warehouse, we once more improve our logistics processes. We can serve our customers even faster, while further reducing our CO2 footprint,” he asserted.
This development aligns seamlessly with Continental’s overarching strategy to mitigate the ecological impact of its logistics operations through innovative technology, optimized storage capacities, and the use of renewable energy.
Remarkably, the warehouse operates solely on renewable energy sources, adhering to the global RE100 initiative’s criteria. Since late 2020, this eco-friendly energy policy has been a standard across all Continental production facilities worldwide.
This initiative is a component of Continental’s broader ambition to revolutionize its global manufacturing operations through digitalization and automation. With a network of 20 tire plants across 16 countries, the company leads in researching and developing cutting-edge technologies, alternative materials, and eco-friendly production methods.
These initiatives are central to improving the overall efficiency of logistics processes, propelling Continental towards its goal of achieving complete climate neutrality across its value chain by 2050.
The Otrokovice warehouse transcends the traditional role of a storage facility. It exemplifies Continental’s dedication to innovation, ecological responsibility, and operational superiority. As a paradigm in the tire manufacturing sector, it illustrates the potential for technological advancements to coexist with and enhance environmental sustainability.
