Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and DP World have embarked on a groundbreaking venture, signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to bolster auto logistics at Jebel Ali Port and propel decarbonization efforts across the UAE’s maritime and port sectors.
This collaboration, unveiled at the COP 28-aligned ceremony in Al Majilis meeting room – Jafza 15, was marked by the signatures of Mr. Ajay Singh, MOL Group’s Managing Executive Officer overseeing operations in the Indian sub-continent and Middle East, and Mr. Abdulla bin Damithan, CEO of DP World GCC.
The agreement sets the stage for both entities to conduct thorough feasibility studies focused on optimizing the handling and distribution of fully assembled cars through Jebel Ali Port. This initiative also targets the development of a market for clean maritime and port-based fuels, alongside other decarbonization ventures.
DP World’s Mr. Abdullah bin Damithan expressed enthusiasm for the shared vision with MOL in advancing global maritime logistics sustainably. This MoU signifies a commitment to not only enhance the automotive supply chain but also to champion decarbonization across the UAE and the broader Middle East.
Mr. Ajay Singh from MOL emphasized the strategic importance of this venture for expanding MOL’s operational footprint at Jebel Ali. The initiative aligns with MOL’s environmental objectives, aiming to transition numerous vessels to cleaner fuels and establish robust marine fuel supply chains throughout the GCC and beyond.
MOL’s environmental strategy, integral to its ‘BLUE ACTION 2035’ management plan, targets net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050, as outlined in the ‘MOL Group Environmental Vision 2.2.’ This alliance with DP World represents a crucial step towards reducing GHG emissions in the maritime industry, steering towards a decarbonized, low-carbon society.
