Tata Motors, the acclaimed automobile titan, is steering the industry toward novel horizons by crafting a state-of-the-art petrol engine. This trailblazing powertrain is set to invigorate its luxurious SUV lineage, namely the Harrier and Safari, infusing a new vigor into these automotive marvels, which currently throb with dynamic 2-liter diesel hearts.
Currently, the Harrier and Safari boast a robust 2-litre diesel engine, appealing to the dominant diesel preference in the SUV market, which sees nearly 80% of the approximately 200,000 units sold annually. A revelation from Shailesh Chandra, the Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, citing customer preference for diesel due to its superior torque performance. This analytical approach toward market tendencies underscored Tata Motors’ commitment to meeting consumer demands with precision and innovation.
Nevertheless, the automobile giant is setting the stage for a future that embraces petrol engines with equal fervor. Chandra disclosed the ongoing development of a promising 1.5-liter GDI engine, envisioned as a pivotal aspect of their future offerings. Tata Motors’ strategic vision underscores a comprehensive perspective, appreciating the potent combination of competitive pricing and market expansion opportunities presented by the inclusion of petrol engines in their repertoire.
“But we knew that going forward petrol is also going to give aggressive price points (for the models) and also why one should leave 20 percent of the market, so we are working on a 1.5 liter GDI engine,” Chandra thoughtfully pointed out, signaling a broadened focus that encompasses a wider customer base. While the new petrol engine’s debut is keenly anticipated, it is still in the meticulous stages of development and integration.
Tata Motors continues to soar in achievements, rolling out the latest versions of the Harrier and Safari last week. These models, beginning at a commendable price of Rs 15.49 lakh and Rs 16.19 lakh respectively, have garnered significant accolades, notably achieving top safety ratings from the renowned vehicle safety organization, Global NCAP.
By aligning with global automotive inclinations and exhibiting adaptability to market dynamics, Tata Motors substantiates its position as a leader in automotive innovation. The introduction of a new petrol engine delineates the company’s forward-thinking approach, resonating with a global perspective that seeks to blend tradition with transformation.
