Kia’s upcoming initiative to adopt the North American Charging Standard (NACS) offers a significant leap toward integrating diverse EV charging systems. This endeavor promises to address the charging woes of countless EV owners across the continent and fortify the international synergy in the electric mobility domain.
Kia’s integration of the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port into its forthcoming electric vehicles promises to revolutionize the charging experience for its customers across the continent. The soon-to-be-released CCS1-to-NACS adapters are set to ensure a wide range of Kia’s EVs can benefit from Tesla’s expansive network, with a rollout anticipated from Kia dealerships by Q1 2025.
Seungkyu (Sean) Yoon, President & CEO of Kia North America and Kia America, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: “Having this kind of sprawling access to chargers will no doubt boost customer satisfaction, elevate the EV ownership experience, and enable drivers to reach more destinations across the continent on electricity.”
Kia is set to enhance the EV driving journey even further. Through the Kia Connect app, after a requisite software upgrade, users can effortlessly pinpoint, locate, and route to the closest Superchargers, receiving real-time data on charger status, availability, and pricing.
Certain specifications apply to this collaboration. The 2015-2019 MY Soul EV – CHAdeMO remains outside this initiative’s scope. Customers should be cognizant of potential additional costs tied to the CCS1-to-NACS adapters and over-the-air features. It’s worth noting that specific 2023 and newer Kia models equipped with Kia Connect come with a complimentary 1-year subscription to the Kia Connect Ultimate package, but features can vary based on model specifics.
By intertwining the strengths of two giants in the industry, Kia’s alliance with Tesla signifies a monumental stride toward a more interconnected electric charging infrastructure, steering North America towards a greener future.
