Global intelligent power management leader, Eaton, partnered with Michigan technology developer, Traxen, to distribute and support the installation of the groundbreaking iQ-Cruise system. This strategic alliance aims to enhance the commercial transportation sector by boosting fuel efficiency, environmental sustainability, and fleet profitability.
Unlike conventional adaptive or predictive cruise control systems that operate independently, the iQ-Cruise system combines both functionalities into one device, utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to enable automatic, natural speed control and significant fuel savings. This innovative system is compatible with automated manual transmissions, including the Eaton Cummins Automated Transmission Technologies portfolio. A monthly subscription fee covers all hardware, installation support, and regular software updates, making it a cost-effective solution for fleet operators.
Traxen’s iQ-Cruise system leverages AI, advanced algorithms, GPS, and high-definition 3D maps to determine the optimal fuel-efficient driving style for Class 8 commercial vehicles in real time. By continuously monitoring live data, including traffic conditions, vehicle load, and terrain, the system optimizes vehicle speed and acceleration/deceleration to maximize fuel efficiency, thereby reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
Tim Bauer, Vice President, of North America Aftermarket, Eaton’s Mobility Group, expressed his excitement about the collaboration. “We are happy to partner with Traxen to bring its unique iQ-Cruise system to the commercial vehicle market. This collaboration aligns with Eaton’s commitment to deliver intelligent solutions that maximize efficiency and sustainability for our customers.”
Ali Maleki, CEO of Traxen, echoed Bauer’s sentiments. “Eaton’s broad reach and expertise in the industry makes them the perfect partner to help Traxen scale its groundbreaking technology in the commercial transportation industry. Our iQ-Cruise system empowers fleet owners and operators to save fuel without compromising truck performance or safety.”
Positive initial feedback from United Road, a prominent vehicle and heavy-haul transportation service and early adopter of the iQ-Cruise system, indicates that the system can significantly reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Jason Walker, Chief Operating Officer, of United Road, noted, “We are thrilled to witness the remarkable impact of Traxen’s iQ-Cruise solution on our fleet. Using iQ-Cruise we have realized more than 6% fuel economy savings with some frequent users saving as much as 10%-15%. This technology has a transformative impact on our operations and cost structure while positively contributing to a more sustainable future of transportation and logistics by reducing our greenhouse gas emissions.”
The Traxen iQ-Cruise kit includes an installation guide with detailed instructions for commercial vehicle service centers. Once the system is installed, users can activate it through Traxen, embarking on a journey towards greater fuel efficiency and environmental sustainability.
The global exclusive partnership between Eaton and Traxen is set to revolutionize the commercial transportation industry. With the AI-powered iQ-Cruise system, fleet owners and operators can significantly enhance fuel efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and contribute to a more sustainable future in the transportation and logistics sector.
