To reshape the landscape of autonomous driving, Polestar, the performance electric vehicle trailblazer, intends to synergize with Mobileye, a leading force within the advanced driver assistance domain. This ambitious partnership aims to elevate the Polestar 4 experience by harnessing the prowess of Mobileye’s esteemed Chauffeur AV platform, with ECARX overseeing integration and manufacturing.
Aligned with Polestar’s core ethos of seamless blending of design, sustainability, and cutting-edge innovation, the integration of Mobileye Chauffeur promises to redefine the conventional dynamics of Polestar vehicles, offering unparalleled on-demand convenience.
Polestar 4, making its debut in China today and set for global release by 2024, establishes itself as the cornerstone for this revolutionary technology, proudly featuring an advanced driver assistance system crafted upon Mobileye’s supervision.
Upon activation, Chauffeur will bestow users with the privilege of hands-off and eyes-off autonomous navigation on highways. Additionally, for select operational design domains, the system will grant eyes on automated navigation across diverse environments.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, remarked, “We are very keen to push innovation in our performance electric vehicles together with Mobileye. We know that driving yourself is not always fun and exciting – this technology means our customers could enable autonomous driving when they want, making all future journeys enjoyable.”
The technology suite behind this integration is formidable. Both SuperVision and Chauffeur derive their strength from Mobileye’s EyeQ systems-on-chip, RSS-based driving policy, a comprehensive 360-degree camera array, and the REM-fortified Mobileye Roadbook map. Notably, Chauffeur integrates the avant-garde EyeQ6 system-on-chip alongside state-of-the-art active radar and lidar sensors, magnifying its sensory prowess. This confluence signifies a pivotal shift from traditional eyes-on systems to full-fledged autonomy.
Prof. Amnon Shashua, President and CEO of Mobileye, extolled the partnership, declaring, “We congratulate Polestar on innovating in consumer vehicles through this program and are proud of our continuing work with the Geely Group in adopting our technology portfolio,” Elaborating further, he added, “Mobileye Chauffeur will offer consumers a safer, accessible way to enjoy autonomous vehicles as the next revolution in personal transportation. It’s the pinnacle of two decades of our experience applying AI in more than 150 million vehicles worldwide.”
