A pivotal moment arrived today for the electric mobility industry as BYD UK and Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) announced the triumphant handover of their 1,500th electric bus to Go-Ahead London. This milestone highlights the formidable progress of the partnership, marking a steadfast commitment to promoting sustainable urban transportation.
Establishing its dominance in the global arena, BYD leads the way in batteries, energy management, and electric mobility. Playing a prominent role domestically, Alexander Dennis, a member of the NFI Group Inc, stands as the largest bus and coach manufacturer in the UK. The BYD–Alexander Dennis partnership catalyzes the growth of eco-friendly public transport, propelling the nation towards a greener future.
Go-Ahead London, widely recognized as the UK’s foremost operator of electric buses, takes the helm in championing electric mobility. Adding nearly 300 new BYD-Alexander Dennis electric buses to its ranks this year, the company continues to amplify its commitment to the environment. Celebrated as the 1,500th BYD–Alexander Dennis electric bus, the vehicle, SEe199, made its debut on Transport for London routes 163 and 164 in May and today secures official recognition.
Frank Thorpe, Managing Director of BYD UK, sees the monumental handover as a reflection of the transformative impact of zero-emission electric bus operations in the battle against climate change. He lauded Go-Ahead London for leading the charge in replacing traditional buses with cleaner, greener alternatives.
Attributing the success of the 1,500th electric bus to the enduring partnership with BYD and the dedication of operators like Go-Ahead London, Neil Gladstone, Alexander Dennis’s National Account Manager for London, highlighted the dramatic evolution of the industry – from the creation of the first electric bus depot to the swift adoption of zero-emission buses.
As a testament to its commitment to sustainable transportation, Go-Ahead London plans to operate approximately 600 electric vehicles by year’s end, amounting to a quarter of its overall bus fleet, shared Richard Harrington, Engineering Director at The Go-Ahead Group.
BYD’s reliable battery technology and Alexander Dennis’s proficiency in body design and specification have together engendered a significant transition towards battery-electric buses in the UK over the past seven years. The Enviro200EV and Enviro400EV models have received a warm reception worldwide, from teeming city services to serene rural routes and staff shuttles, extending their influence to Ireland and New Zealand.
Unwavering commitment from pioneering organizations such as BYD, Alexander Dennis, and Go-Ahead London propels the drive towards sustainable public transportation, marking a pivotal era of environmental responsibility and reduced carbon pollution in our cities.
