As October dawns, Doha prepares to welcome an esteemed assembly of thirty global automotive brands for the pioneering Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) Qatar edition, scheduled for October 5 to 14. Amid the revelry, ten revolutionary car models await their worldwide debut, marking an unprecedented milestone for the automotive sector.
This unique iteration of the GIMS is a trailblazing step as it extends beyond the borders of its original homeland, Switzerland. This strategic move aligns seamlessly with Qatar’s heritage as a vibrant host of prominent worldwide sporting events, notably the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix 2023.
A joint statement from Qatar Tourism and GIMS underlines the surging interest from exhibitors as a testament to GIMS’ innovative event concept, setting a pioneering standard for trans-continental motor shows. This groundbreaking event appears to dovetail effectively with the marketing trajectories of dominant Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and suppliers.
Car aficionados gracing will enjoy a preview of ten ground-breaking new car models set to debut during the event. With exhibitors occupying an impressive 10,000 sq m expanse within the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC), the event promises an unforgettable spectacle.
Enhancing the festival experience for visitors, five distinguished external venues scattered across the country will offer diverse attractions, crafting an immersive journey into the automotive world. With registrations concluded in June, GIMS now embarks on the meticulous task of space allocation for the participating brands, the details of which will grace GIMS’ social media channels in due course.
Berthold Trenkel, Chief Operating Officer at Qatar Tourism, views Qatar as an exemplary location for this monumental event. He observed, “With its wide selection of exceptional hotels, exciting excursions, and captivating landmarks, Qatar is the ideal location to inaugurate the first-ever GIMS to be held outside of its home country.”
Sandro Mesquita, CEO of GIMS, affirmed this perspective, expressing palpable anticipation for the approaching event. “Excitement is building for the first edition of the Qatar show in Doha, which is now only a few months away. We’re on track to make the event the new, top-tier motor show for the Middle East, bridging the gap between the exciting automotive industries in the East and west.” he articulated.
The curtain will rise on GIMS Qatar with an exclusive opening ceremony and gala dinner on October 5. Following a media preview that is going to be held on October 6, the event will open to automotive enthusiasts from October 7 to 14. Conveniently aligned with the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix 2023, taking place in Doha from October 6 to 8, the event promises a thrilling experience.
Further details about the full GIMS Qatar program, promising a diverse array of engaging activities like a Future of Car Design Forum, off-road adventure experiences, rides and drives, and a classic automobile gallery, will soon be revealed.
