Audi Hungaria celebrates a remarkable achievement, completing the production of its two millionth car, as the factory simultaneously celebrates three decades of existence and a quarter-century of vehicle production.
The 2-millionth vehicle is a coveted Karat beige Audi RS Q3 Sportback. The machine boasts an impressive 400 horsepower and is powered by a 2.5-liter TFSI engine, which has made a clean sweep at the ‘International Engine of the Year awards for nine straight years. This engine, crafted within the walls of Audi Hungaria, will soon propel the car to its first owner residing within Germany’s borders.
Audi Hungaria’s Chairman of the Board of Management, Alfons Dintner, reflects on this significant achievement. “This year, in addition to our 30th anniversary, our company is also celebrating 25 years of vehicle production, so we are particularly pleased to have reached this important milestone this year. Building on the experience we have gained over the past decades, we are preparing for a new chapter in our vehicle production, in which our new brand CUPRA and electromobility will play a key role,” expressed Dinner.
Starting with the Audi TT Coupé model in 1998, Audi Hungaria has seen steady progress, with significant diversification of its production capabilities. The company experienced a dramatic evolution in 2013, ushering a new vehicle factory into existence, thereby transforming Audi Hungaria into an all-encompassing vehicle production hub, complete with a press shop, body shop, paint shop, assembly shop, and quality assurance activities.
Zoltán Les, a Board of Management member of Audi Hungaria responsible for Vehicle Manufacturing, stressed the factory’s recent triumphs and upcoming initiatives. “Series production of the Audi Q3 models started in 2018, which was a big leap for us, as this was the first SUV model from Győr that far surpassed the previous TT production in terms of number of units. Last year, we produced more than 171,000 cars, the most ever in a single year. As further proof of our flexibility and preparedness, preparations for the production of our new model, the CUPRA Terramar, have already been completed. In the future, this model will ensure high production standards and take our vehicle production to a new level,” Les divulged.
Audi Hungaria is deeply committed to electromobility. The factory proudly introduced its first electric drive train cars, the Q3 and Q3 Sportback equipped with MHEV technology, in 2019. A year later, the plug-in hybrid variants of the Q3 and Q3 Sportback entered the scene. Slated for a 2024 launch, the CUPRA Terramar will be the first non-Audi model produced at Audi Hungaria, a pioneering step within the Audi Group’s production sites.
Audi Hungaria’s momentous achievements underscore its dedication to superior manufacturing and robust electrification, thereby reinforcing its position as a pioneering force in the global automobile manufacturing landscape. With a keen eye set on future innovations, Audi Hungaria is prepared for an exciting journey into the next epoch of vehicle production.
