Seven standout Audi vehicles have achieved the prestigious 2023 IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) TOP SAFETY PICK awards, underscoring their excellent safety attributes and robust design. Five models have ascended to the pinnacle TOP SAFETY PICK+ distinction, with the 2024 Audi Q8 e-tron joining the array of Audi’s comprehensive electric SUVs to receive this accolade, based on exacting standards of crashworthiness, crash avoidance, and advanced lighting technology.
Daniel Weissland, Audi of America’s President, stressed safety as a primary concern for Audi, expressing satisfaction with Audi’s continued recognition by independent industry organizations for their dedication to advancing safety technologies and establishing higher safety benchmarks.
The IIHS toughened its award requirements this February 2023, introducing an 82 percent more forceful side crash test and a novel nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention test. Such modifications echo the industry’s relentless pursuit of enhanced safety norms.
With a standard front crash prevention system, both the Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron attained advanced ratings during both daytime and nighttime pedestrian tests. The Audi Q8, Q8 e-tron, and Q8 Sportback e-tron standard crash avoidance systems secured superior daytime ratings and advanced nighttime ratings.
Honored with the prestigious IIHS 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award are the 2023 Audi Q4 e-tron, 2023 Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron, 2024 Audi Q8 e-tron, 2024 Audi Q8 Sportback e-tron, and 2023 Audi Q8. The 2023 Audi Q5 and 2023 Audi Q5 Sportback received the 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK award.
For any IIHS award in 2023, a vehicle must perform exceptionally during driver- and passenger-side small front overlap and original moderate overlap front collision tests. Additionally, all trims should have acceptable or good headlights.
The TOP SAFETY PICK necessitates an acceptable or good rating from the updated side test and a front crash prevention system with advanced or superior daytime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluation. The TOP SAFETY PICK+ requires a good rating from the side impact test and superior or advanced ratings from both daytime and nighttime pedestrian tests.
