Ford’s 2024 Mustang all-new will debut a feature geared toward promoting safer interactions between drivers and vulnerable road users. The new feature, dubbed ‘Exit Warning,’ will be available on all models of the Mustang from summer onwards.
Exit Warning utilizes radar technology to detect approaching cyclists, scooter riders, and pedestrians when the Mustang is parked. The system is activated when vulnerable road users, traveling at a minimum speed of 4 miles per hour, are identified within the vicinity of the vehicle.
Should the opening of the vehicle’s door potentially risk an impact with the approaching user, Exit Warning springs into action. The system generates audio and visual alerts through Ford SYNC, the Mustang’s instrument cluster, and the side mirror to notify the driver of the impending danger.
Adding to its safety-oriented design, the Exit Warning feature remains active for up to three minutes after the ignition is turned off. It continues to issue audio and visual alerts on the vehicle’s cluster and touch screen.
The introduction of the Exit Warning system aligns with the increased frequency of cycling accidents from June through September, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The system serves as a testament to Ford’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all road users.
However, Ford emphasizes that these driver assist features are supplementary. They do not substitute the driver’s attention, judgment, and need to control the vehicle, nor do they replace safe driving practices.
Traffic accidents are a grave concern that persist globally. While enforcement of traffic laws and educational initiatives play a crucial role in curbing these mishaps, the automotive industry’s contribution to accident reduction is equally significant.
In this context, Ford emerges as a noteworthy player, making substantial strides in safety management. Through the production of innovative vehicles, the auto giant is actively participating in the prevention of road accidents. The company’s pioneering technology not only ensures driver and passenger safety but also considers the well-being of all road users, thus leading the charge in creating safer roads worldwide.
