This infusion of sophisticated, zero-emission vehicles, which includes 13 standard twelve-meter buses and 7 articulated counterparts from the esteemed Urbino electric series, materialized as part of an ambitious contract amounting to a substantial EUR 16 million.
This formidable feat marks a significant milestone in the metamorphosis of Kraków’s public transport mechanism. The existing vehicular ensemble of the city has been substantially augmented, reinforcing its steadfast commitment to zero-emission public transit. In the chronicle of their quarter-century alliance with MPK, Solaris has supplied the city with 76 such eco-friendly chariots since 2016, fortifying their unwavering allegiance and reliability.
The ceremonial event commemorating this substantial delivery was graced by luminaries including Jacek Majchrowski, the Mayor of Kraków, and representatives from both MPK and Solaris. Mayor Majchrowski acclaimed the momentous occasion, emphasizing the city’s persistent endeavours in zero-emission transportation over the past decade. With the most recent procurement of 20 advanced buses, Kraków now proudly parades a formidable fleet of 99 electric buses traversing 15 routes.
Solaris’ Sales Director, Andrzej Sienkiewicz, underscored the invaluable importance of their long-standing affiliation with MPK Kraków. The president of MPK SA in Kraków, Rafał Świerczyński, unveiled ambitious blueprints for deploying these new zero-emission juggernauts not only within the city’s core, but also to significant locations such as Balice Airport and Wieliczka.
The newest electric buses from Solaris are powered by the company’s High Energy batteries. The Urbino 12-meter units brandish batteries with an impressive capacity of approximately 300 kWh, and the larger Urbino models over 400 kWh. These vehicles embody cutting-edge SiC technology in their propulsion systems, amplifying their operational efficacy and conserving energy.
The Urbino buses come replete with an array of state-of-the-art features, including an integrated video surveillance system, an advanced passenger information system, air-conditioning, USB ports, and an electric heating system. Each element within these high-tech buses operates purely on electricity, reinforcing their commitment to sustainable mobility. To bolster safety, these buses are equipped with the pioneering Acoustic Vehicle Alert System.
