BMW Motorrad has announced the launch of the much-awaited M 1000 RR in India, commanding a starting price of rupees 49 lakh (ex-showroom). The motorcycle, currently open for reservations, is set to be delivered to buyers in November 2023. Two versions of this 2023 model will grace the Indian market – the Standard variant priced at 49 lakh and the superior Competition variant at 55 lakh, the latter being the costliest model from BMW Motorrad in the Indian market. Notably, this road-legal powerhouse will be imported as a completely built-up unit (CBU).
Performance
The M 1000 RR draws its power from a 999cc, four-cylinder, water, and oil-cooled engine, fortified with BMW’s proprietary Shift Cam technology. This formidable engine delivers a whopping 210bhp of power at 14,500rpm and a peak torque of 113Nm at 11,000rpm. Mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch and a bi-directional quick-shifter, the bike promises exceptional performance with a top speed of 314km/h and a quick sprint from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.1 seconds.
BMW M 1000 RR Design
Design-wise, the 2023 BMW M 1000 RR has seen some alterations from its 2019 predecessor, particularly at the rear. The bike now sports a compact number plate holder and an ergonomic M Endurance seat. The fairing, made of exposed visible carbon fiber, not only adds to the aesthetics but also enhances airflow around the rider and boosts speed. The winglets have been revamped to improve aerodynamic downforce, leading to enhanced stability and reduced wheelie tendencies.
The bike is equipped with M brakes, borrowed from the racing brakes of the World Superbike Championship. The brake calipers, finished in a striking blue anodized color and flaunting an M logo, add a hint of sportiness to the overall look.
Cutting-Edge Tech
Tech-wise, the M 1000 RR impresses with a 6.5-inch TFT display in the instrument cluster, featuring an M-start animation. It includes an OBD port for activating the M GPS lap trigger and M GPS data recorder, which form part of the M Competition package. The bike also boasts a rear USB charging port, a compact M battery, integrated LED light units, and heated grips. In terms of safety, the bike comes with an advanced version of dynamic traction control (DTC), with a DTC wheelie feature powered by a 6-axle sensor box.
The M 1000 RR offers a variety of racing modes – Rain, Road, Dynamic, Race, and three Race Pro modes – allowing riders to customize throttle curves and engine brakes with threefold adjustable engine drag torque, to match their preferred riding style.
The Competition
Despite the steep pricing, with the M 1000 RR Competition variant retailing for rupees 55 lakh and the Standard variant for rupees 49 lakh, BMW’s new offering faces its main competition in the Indian market from the Ducati Panigale V4R, priced at rupees 70 lakh. The M 1000 RR’s potent blend of power, design, and technology, however, sets it apart as it vrooms into the Indian roads.
