Toyota Motor Europe has partnered with energy providers across Europe to roll out smart charging solutions for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug‑in hybrids (PHEVs). The collaboration intends to deliver a seamless, fully integrated charging experience for drivers, whether at home, in the workplace, or while travelling.
Beginning in 2026, Toyota will introduce demand side response (DSR) charging services in partnership with British Gas in the UK and The Mobility House Energy in Germany.
These services will enable automated smart charging that moves vehicle charging to off-peak hours, when electricity is usually cheaper.
Drivers will be able to schedule and oversee charging through mobile apps and can also choose to charge during periods of greater renewable energy availability.

Toyota also noted that customers participating in grid‑balancing programs may also qualify for incentives and rewards.
By enabling smart, flexible, and green charging, Toyota is helping to shape a future where mobility and energy work hand in hand for the benefit of customers, communities, and the planet,” said Leon Van Der Merwe, VP circular economy and energy business at Toyota Motor Europe.
Toyota stated that the solutions are designed to enhance electricity grid stability by balancing demand, reducing reliance on fossil fuel plants, and supporting greater integration of variable renewable energy sources like wind and solar.

Toyota Motor Europe also stated that it intends to expand these energy collaborations to more countries and roll out further services, including Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology. This feature will allow electric vehicles not only to charge from the grid but also to feed electricity back into it when needed.
