A new high-tech Flex manufacturing facility was opened in Zalaegerszeg on Tuesday with the participation of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. The 10,000-square-meter plant, built through an investment of roughly 35 billion forints, represents a major expansion of Flex’s operations in Hungary.
At the inauguration of the Flex Zala Automotive Next Gen plant, senior vice president Jean-Francois Zoeller, who oversees Flex’s European and global automotive business, highlighted the company’s significant footprint: more than 35 factories and 30,000 employees across Europe.
He described Hungary as a pillar of this network, with seven local sites employing 7,000 people in manufacturing, logistics, and R&D.

Flex uses advanced production technologies to supply components for more than 600 platforms across over 100 automotive brands, including electric and hybrid models. A key capability of the latest systems, Zoeller said, is remote software updating, now central to modern vehicle performance.
He noted that the automotive sector is undergoing rapid transformation and requires continuous investment, innovation, and new ways of thinking. As new ecosystems take shape, he stressed that neither manufacturers nor suppliers can succeed alone, and close cooperation is essential to deliver high-quality products.

Zoeller thanked the Hungarian government and HIPA for their support, adding that Flex recently received a European innovation award thanks to the work of its teams in Budapest and Zalaegerszeg. He said the Zalaegerszeg workforce is highly skilled and able to adapt quickly to technological changes.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said the 35-billion-forint Flex investment will create 210 high-value-added, research-driven, and future-proof jobs.
He emphasized that the next-generation mobility unit in Zalaegerszeg will help address key challenges facing the automotive industry, providing Europe with advanced automotive, IT, and battery platforms. The Hungarian government supported the project with 7.8 billion forints.
