Ram is gearing up to enter the SUV segment for the first time, signaling a significant move beyond its traditional focus on trucks. Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa declared that the new Ram SUV will be manufactured in Warren, Michigan, alongside two upcoming SRT-branded trucks scheduled for release next year.
Following multiple delays, Ram’s all-electric pickup, the Ram 1500 REV, was officially canceled last month. Stellantis halted development of the EV, citing declining consumer interest in electric trucks.
The decision comes amid a broader restructuring of Stellantis’ electrification strategy. During the company’s Q3 earnings call, Filosa revealed that a recent $13 billion investment will fund the launch of five new vehicles in the U.S. and increase production capacity by 50%.
Filosa added that Ram’s lineup will expand significantly in the coming years, with plans to introduce the brand’s first-ever SUV.
By 2028, Ram will expand its lineup with the new full-size SUV and a midsize pickup, joining the range-extended Ram 1500 REV slated for release in 2026.

Both the upcoming SUV and midsize truck will be available with a range-extended hybrid system as well as gasoline powertrains.
According to reports, the upcoming SUV will share its platform with the Ram 1500 pickup, offering comparable size and off-road capability. It may be named the ‘Ram Charger,’ a nod to the brand’s heritage of high-performance vehicles. The development supports Stellantis’s strategy to bolster U.S. manufacturing and broaden its lineup of electrified models.
By choosing Michigan as the production site for its new SUV, Stellantis reaffirms its dedication to domestic manufacturing. The upcoming additions to Ram’s lineup will support the brand’s evolution from a truck-exclusive focus to a more versatile presence across various vehicle segments.
