Toyota’s top-selling model is set to go electric. Unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show on Tuesday, the Corolla Concept previews the 13th-generation Corolla hatchback, featuring a bold new design and advanced interior technology.
Since its launch more than five decades ago, Toyota has sold over 50 million Corollas worldwide. In the 1990s, it overtook the VW Beetle to claim the title of the world’s best-selling car. Much like the Prius, the Corolla attracted buyers with its affordability and reputation for reliability. According to Toyota CEO Koji Sato, the compact model has always been a car for all.
Revamped to reflect Toyota’s bold new design language, the exterior of the latest Corolla Concept features a sleek, futuristic look. A slim full-width LED light bar and the absence of a conventional grille, highlights the Concept’s compatibility with electric, hybrid, and gasoline powertrains.

Although the exterior of the Toyota Corolla Concept appears ready for production, its interior takes futuristic design to a whole new level. The steering wheel blends what looks like Alcantara and leather, featuring a subtle silver 12 o’clock marker that hints at a possible GR variant, and the driver’s instrument cluster resembles something more commonly found in a sports car.
“Whether it’s a battery EV, plug-in hybrid, or internal combustion engine vehicle―whatever the power source―let’s make good-looking cars that everyone will want to drive,” Sato said, adding the car is “packed with inventions aimed at making that a reality.”
While Toyota hasn’t officially stated that the concept will enter production, the upcoming generation of the Corolla is anticipated to feature a similar design. It is expected to be available as an all-electric model, a plug-in hybrid, a hybrid, and likely a traditional internal combustion engine as well.
