Volvo Cars will provide Swedish private buyers with one year of free home charging for their new electric vehicles. Beginning in February 2026, the offer will be available through an electricity contract with Vattenfall, integrating with the smart charging feature in the Volvo Cars app.
Starting in February 2026, Volvo says Swedish customers can receive up to 25,000 km of free electric driving for one year. However, the offer comes with specific conditions. To qualify, customers must have an active electricity retail contract with Vattenfall, charge their Volvo BEV using the same electricity meter linked to that contract, and enable the smart charging feature through the Volvo Cars app.
“Volvo Cars adding an offer of free home charging from Vattenfall when purchasing a new electric car is a positive, sustainable step. Working together to encourage the use of electric cars with fossil-free electricity, starting in Sweden, is incredibly inspiring,” Branislav Slavic, Head of Customers & Solutions at Vattenfall Nordics, said.

The complimentary charging will mostly take place during off-peak hours, with the amount of free electricity varying based on several factors. According to the fine print, the actual energy provided depends heavily on the customer’s specific electricity contract, their consumption levels, and prevailing energy prices—capped at an average of 1.5 SEK per kWh per month. Volvo estimates it will cover up to 5,150kWh of charging annually, which it equates to roughly 25,000km of driving range in the EX90.
Eligible Volvo customers in Sweden will be notified about the signup process closer to the launch. Volvo says this Swedish program will serve as a foundation for broader expansion, as the company aims to collaborate with additional sustainable energy providers to extend the initiative across Europe and beyond.
Volvo further noted that once vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology rolls out in 2026, it will launch a new offer allowing customers to use their EV’s battery to power their homes or feed electricity back into the grid.
