Toyota Motor Corporation has announced the Land Cruiser FJ, a new variant designed for recreational users seeking customizable off-road capabilities.
The model is scheduled for launch in Japan around mid-2026 and will make its public debut at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, running from 30 October to 9 November at Tokyo Big Sight.
The FJ marks the fourth distinct series in the Land Cruiser lineup, joining the 300 Series flagship, the 70 Series heavy-duty model, and the 250 Series introduced in 2024.
It features a wheelbase 270mm shorter than the 250 Series, resulting in a minimum turning radius of 5.5 meters. Built on the IMV series platform, the FJ incorporates wheel articulation similar to the 70 Series to maintain ground clearance and off-road approach angles.

Toyota’s design emphasizes a “dice motif” with chamfered edges and a squared cabin silhouette, focusing on interior space and cargo capacity. Front and rear corner bumpers are segmented and removable, allowing individual replacement of damaged components.
The interior includes a horizontal instrument panel designed to communicate vehicle attitude, with consolidated monitors and switches to reduce driver eye movement. Standard safety features include Toyota Safety Sense, the company’s active pre-collision system package.
“With the addition of the new Land Cruiser FJ to the series, Toyota will provide new value in the form of ‘Freedom & Joy’ that comes from enjoying the Land Cruiser in your own way, whilst retaining the reliability, durability, and off-road performance that support people’s lifestyles,” the company said in a statement.

Toyota will offer optional customization items throughout the FJ’s lifecycle, including round headlights inspired by earlier Land Cruiser generations and MOLLE panels for mounting outdoor equipment.
The company is also developing the Land Hopper, an electric personal mobility vehicle designed to fit in the FJ’s cargo area for trail use, though no launch date has been announced.
Since its debut as the Toyota BJ in 1951, the Land Cruiser nameplate has recorded approximately 12.15 million units sold across more than 190 countries and regions as of August 2025. This figure includes Lexus LX and GX models.
