DENZA, a premium new energy vehicle brand from BYD, is set to debut in Australia and New Zealand this November by introducing two plug-in hybrid electric off-road models to the luxury segment.
DENZA’s initial offerings will be the B5 and B8, five- and seven-seat plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUVs that combine off-road capability with advanced luxury features. Also referred to as the Leopard 5 and Leopard 8, both vehicles are equipped with BYD’s DM-O (Dual-Mode Offroad) technology, which delivers off-road performance alongside electric efficiency.
DENZA showcases a refined lineup of high-end vehicles from BYD’s sub-brands, rebranded under a new nameplate tailored exclusively for the Australia–New Zealand market.
“This is a landmark moment in the Australian automotive industry. DENZA will offer a whole new range for consumers wanting a slice of luxury and the latest in innovation. It’s built for explorers, pioneers, and leaders,” said Mark Harland, COO of DENZA Australia.

DENZA is built to handle Australia’s rugged terrain while also meeting the practical demands of city-based families.
According to the company, the DM-O drivetrain is a groundbreaking innovation that combines true off-road capability with electric efficiency, although detailed specifications for the New Zealand market remain undisclosed.
BYD’s launch of the DENZA marks its foray into the high-end vehicle segment, targeting consumers who prioritize luxury amenities alongside electric drivetrains.
The November launch will introduce another high-end electrified choice to the New Zealand market, where luxury carmakers are increasingly emphasizing hybrid and electric powertrains. DENZA aims to appeal to drivers seeking more than just a luxury nameplate. The B5 and B8 will deliver a blend of sophisticated design and premium features, providing comfort and performance.
