Tesla has delivered its first electric vehicle in India following years of prolonged delays. The launch featured the Model Y, with two variants.
Deliveries began on Monday, roughly two months after its official launch in July in Mumbai. The Long Range version of the Model Y is expected to be delivered shortly, though Tesla has not revealed any figures regarding sales or deliveries.
New Model Y buyers will be provided with a free Wall Connector for convenient charging. Additionally, Tesla owners can access charging facilities at Tesla Charging Stations located in Mumbai and Delhi.
The rear-wheel drive Model Y is priced from ₹59.89 lakh (approximately $69,000), while the long-range rear-wheel drive variant costs ₹67.89 lakh (around $79,000). These prices are considerably higher than those in nearby countries because of India’s 70% import duty on electric vehicles.

Tesla has declared that deliveries for customers who ordered the Long Range Model Y variant will begin soon. The company has strengthened its presence in India by launching a second experience center in Delhi’s Aerocity in August, after the opening of its first center in Mumbai.
Vehicle reservation requires a fee of ₹22,220, along with an additional ₹50,000 to cover administrative and service charges.
Customers throughout India can place orders for the Model Y via Tesla(dot)com or visit the Tesla Experience centers in Mumbai and Delhi for test drives. Tesla cars regularly receive Over-the-Air (OTA) software updates that enhance performance, introduce new functionalities, and address technical issues.
As part of its expansion strategy, Tesla plans to establish a charging network across eight locations, including major cities such as Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, and Jaipur.
