Daimler Truck’s Japanese unit, Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC), has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Taiwan’s electronics giant Foxconn (Hon Hai) to explore strategic collaboration in the development, manufacturing, and distribution of electric buses, according to a statement from the companies.
As part of the agreement, MFTBC, through its subsidiary Mitsubishi Fuso Bus Manufacturing Company (MFBM), and Foxconn’s automotive division, Foxtron Vehicle Technologies, will collaborate on the manufacturing, supply chain operations, and distribution of electric buses, including customized versions of Foxtron’s existing Model T and Model U platforms.
Additionally, both companies aim to strengthen presence in the zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) segment to accelerate growth in the global clean mobility market.
The platforms are built on Foxtron’s MIH (Mobility in Harmony) modular battery electric vehicle architecture, to offer global automakers a streamlined and cost-effective path into the BEV market, supported by an integrated component supply chain.

The companies stated that the partnership will leverage Foxconn’s expertise in electronics and manufacturing alongside Mitsubishi’s experience in the commercial vehicle industry.
Mitsubishi Fuso said that the initiative is centered on the bus sector and the collaboration will span manufacturing, logistics, and distribution of electric buses.
MFBM will act as the operational hub for designing and marketing buses in selected regions, with plans to assess the rollout of Japan-made internal combustion engine (ICE) and zero-emission vehicles (ZEV) in those markets.
MFTBC said the MoU will serve as a foundation for exploring future business models focused on enhancing the Fuso brand and developing new Japan-manufactured buses.
The full-size Model T bus, introduced in 2021, is already in commercial operation within the public transportation networks of major Taiwanese cities. Meanwhile, the Model U, a microbus unveiled last October, remains in the prototype stage.
