Volkswagen has delivered its 1.5 millionth all-electric ID. series vehicle, marking a major milestone nearly five years after the line’s launch in September 2020. The landmark car, a black ID.7 Tourer Pro with a WLTP range of up to 606 kilometres, was handed over at the Emden plant in the presence of Lower Saxony’s Minister President Olaf Lies.
“This milestone clearly demonstrates Volkswagen’s strong position in electric mobility,” said Martin Sander, Volkswagen Board Member for Sales, Marketing, and After Sales. He added that Volkswagen currently leads electric-vehicle registrations in Germany and across Europe, indicating the lineup is aligning with customer demand.

The ID.7, the latest addition to the range, underscores the brand’s push on performance and innovation in the EV segment. The milestone vehicle went to a customer from Vechta, Lower Saxony, with the keys presented by Mr Sander alongside Board Member for Technical Development Kai Grünitz and Mr Lies. Calling the ID.7 a symbol of Lower Saxony’s ‘industrial transformation’, Mr Lies noted Volkswagen’s more than €1 billion investment in Emden to support full electric production.
Emden, together with Zwickau and the Transparent Factory in Dresden, operates solely on EV production. Additional ID. models are built in Hanover, Chattanooga (USA), and in the Chinese cities of Foshan, Changsha, and Anting. Since the ID.3 debuted in 2020 as Volkswagen’s first ground-up electric model, the lineup has expanded to include the ID.4 SUV, ID.5 coupé, ID. Buzz, and the ID.7/ID.7 Tourer. The ID.7 Tourer was the most-registered electric vehicle in Germany in the first half of 2025.

While commercial buyers continue to dominate EV registrations, Mr Sander called for stronger incentives to broaden private adoption. “To build broader acceptance, we need clear policies and direct incentives,” he said, arguing current benefits are largely skewed towards business fleets.
Volkswagen plans to widen access to electric mobility with a compact model: the production ID. 2all, targeted at under €25,000 and due in 2026, followed by the ID. EVERY1 in 2027 at around €20,000. The company says its focus remains on scaling affordable, dependable, and lower-emissions mobility across key markets.
