BYD UK is offering a five-year servicing package on select new and approved used electric models amid uncertainty over eligibility for the UK Government’s Electric Car Grant.
Following the government’s introduction of the Electric Car Grant, automakers are launching a range of incentives, from direct discounts to extended warranties, to remain competitive and attract buyers.
The five year servicing package applies to the Dolphin Surf, Dolphin, and Atto 3 models, offering coverage for scheduled maintenance and labor costs. Additionally, the brand has extended its power battery warranty to eight years or 155,342 miles across all electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles sold in the UK.
While revealing its new maintenance program, BYD noted that although it has formally applied to join the government-backed initiative, it may not be eligible.

The new offer suggests that the brand is unlikely to meet the requirements for the government’s Electric Car Grant of £1,500 or £3,750 per vehicle. The scheme imposes stringent conditions on how manufacturers produce electric cars, including a mandatory commitment to Science-Based Targets (SBT) for emissions and proven progress in cutting them.
Steve Beattie, Sales and Marketing Director at BYD UK, said the five-year servicing offer is BYD’s way of showing appreciation to customers who choose the brand, providing continued support long after the point of sale. He emphasized that this includes the Approved Used market, which is key to boosting EV adoption and enhancing the long-term value of BYD vehicles.
Meanwhile, a maintenance offer extends to BYD’s full lineup of all-electric and hybrid models, including vehicles already in use.
