UTAC, a global leader in automotive testing and proving grounds, is set to expand its facilities to meet the demands of next-generation mobility. The investments span across the United Kingdom, the United States, Morocco, Finland, and France, with a clear focus on electrification, autonomy, and sustainability.
UK Enhancements Drive Electrification and Innovation
In the United Kingdom, UTAC has upgraded its Leyland and Millbrook sites. At Leyland, four new Electric Drive Unit (EDU) test benches have been installed with a modular setup to meet diverse client needs. Meanwhile, Millbrook has expanded battery testing capabilities, enhanced Track Control for safety with multi-screen monitoring, and upgraded its engine testing cell using proprietary automation software from UTAC USA. The site also adapted its Heavy Duty Variable Temperature Emissions Chamber for new sectors and renovated its Concept 1 event venue for industry clients.

U.S. Facility Transformed into High-Performance E-Motor Testing Hub
In Michigan, the Centennial Building has been completely modernized from its original internal combustion engine lab into a cutting-edge e-motor testing facility. Key additions include three high-speed test cells capable of handling motors up to 25,000 RPM and 800 Nm torque, a 25% performance increase. Real-world simulation capabilities now include tightly controlled temperature environments, dynamic E-Flow motor cooling technology, and a high-efficiency Unico SiC inverter. The 85,000 sq ft facility is powered by a 5 MW electrical supply and is currently engaged in a long-term program with a leading European OEM.
Morocco Site Advances Extreme Condition Testing
At UTAC’s Oued Zem proving ground in Morocco, a new in-house developed ‘Sun Bench’ with 700 infrared lamps enables advanced durability testing under intense solar heat. Its zoned, mobile design allows targeted exposure, helping manufacturers optimize vehicles for high-temperature environments.

Year-Round Spin Traction Testing in Finland
UTAC’s Ivalo facility in Finland now features a fully electric, customized spin traction truck, making UTAC the first independent European provider aligned with North American testing standards. The new setup enables tyre certification and R&D testing in all weather conditions, both indoors and outdoors, offering manufacturers consistent, regulation-ready data year-round.
Ongoing Investment in French Capabilities
In France, UTAC has enhanced its Paris facilities with a new tyre buffing machine introduced in June 2025 and is upgrading its acoustic tracks, further strengthening its Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) testing capabilities.
A Unified Commitment to Innovation
Commenting on the developments, UTAC CEO Connor McCormack stated, “Innovation, agility, and customer service have been the cornerstones of UTAC for over a century. As mobility transitions towards electrification, autonomy, and sustainability, we are proud to invest in new capabilities that allow our clients to push the boundaries of technology. Our expanded global offering ensures UTAC remains the trusted partner for today’s industry leaders and tomorrow’s pioneers.”
