Hyundai Motor Group has secured its position as the industry leader in vehicle safety, earning the highest number of awards in the 2025 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash test evaluations.
Fifteen models from across Hyundai Motor Company, Kia Corporation, and Genesis received either the 2025 TOP SAFETY PICK (TSP) or TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) distinctions, marking the second year in a row the Group topped the IIHS safety rankings. The awarded vehicles include seven Hyundai models, five from Genesis, and three from Kia.

Among the latest to receive the coveted TSP+ rating are the 2025 Hyundai ELANTRA and SONATA, as well as the 2025 Kia K4. These join previously awarded models like the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6, KONA, TUCSON, and SANTA FE; Genesis GV60, Electrified GV70, GV70, and GV80; and Kia EV9 and Telluride. The Genesis G90 also received a TSP rating.
For 2025, the IIHS adopted stricter safety standards, particularly in the updated moderate overlap front test, which now evaluates second-row occupant protection using dummies simulating 12-year-old children or smaller adult passengers. To earn a TSP+ rating, vehicles must achieve a ‘good’ rating in this test; an ‘acceptable’ rating is required for the TSP designation.

Additional criteria for the awards include:
- ‘Good’ ratings in both small overlap front and updated side impact crash tests
- At least ‘acceptable’ ratings in pedestrian crash prevention (day and night)
- Headlights rated ‘acceptable’ or better across all trim levels
The IIHS is an independent, non-profit organization committed to reducing road fatalities and injuries through rigorous testing, research, and consumer education. Its safety awards are a recognized benchmark in the North American auto industry, guiding consumer choices and influencing manufacturer standards.
