Hyundai and Samsung are collaborating to validate Private 5G (P-5G) RedCap technology, which offers rapid and seamless communication, lowering power consumption and costs.
Samsung Electronics declared on Wednesday that it has partnered with Hyundai Motor to integrate 5G private network solutions into Hyundai’s advanced vehicle manufacturing facilities. The companies recently completed an end-to-end RedCap trial over a private 5G network and will showcase the technology at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, Spain.

The coalition has validated P-5G RedCap technology, which simplifies device configurations and reduces bandwidth usage. This results in lower power consumption, cost efficiency, and improved performance over traditional Wi-Fi, including speed, data processing, connection stability, and low latency. RedCap technology now enables high-speed wireless communication for vehicle inspection equipment, small tools, cameras, and tablets.
Hyundai Motor has integrated Qualcomm Snapdragon X35 5G Modem-RF System chipsets, powered by RedCap, into its Diagnostic Scan system. This integration enables efficient data transmission via Samsung’s 5G network.

Samsung’s P-5G solution, with optimized RedCap software, reduces power consumption and amplifies uplink capacity for real-time IoT data transfer. The system incorporates a comprehensive management interface that facilitates automated operations.
The collaboration aims to transform Hyundai Motor’s Ulsan Plant, the world’s largest single automobile plant with a daily production of 6,000 vehicles, into a smart factory. The RedCap end-to-end test follows Samsung Electronics’ implementation of a private 5G network at Hyundai Motor’s main manufacturing facility. Hyundai Motor plans to implement private 5G at its new EV plant in Ulsan, opening in 2026.
