BYD has officially ventured into humanoid robotics, launching a global recruitment campaign to build its Embodied Intelligence Research Team. Targeting master’s and doctoral graduates from the class of 2025 at top universities worldwide, BYD is offering roles such as Senior Algorithm Engineers, Senior Structural Engineers, and Senior Simulation Engineers. The team will focus on cutting-edge research in humanoid and bipedal robotics.
BYD’s Embodied Intelligence Research Team leverages the company’s industrial applications to enhance robotic capabilities. The team has already developed advanced robotic products, including industrial, collaborative, mobile, and humanoid robots, with a focus on improving robotic perception and decision-making. BYD aims to accelerate the adoption of embodied intelligence in industrial sectors.
The initiative aligns with BYD’s strategy of integrating artificial intelligence with automotive technologies. During its 30th-anniversary celebration, which also marked the rollout of its ten millionth new energy vehicle (NEV), BYD Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu announced a $13.73 billion investment into AI-driven innovations to achieve comprehensive vehicle intelligence upgrades.
BYD’s collaboration with Ubtech Robotics highlights its commitment to humanoid applications. Ubtech’s industrial humanoid robot, Walker S1, has been deployed in BYD’s manufacturing facilities. Standing 1.72 meters tall and weighing 76 kilograms, Walker S1 can carry up to 15 kilograms, working seamlessly with autonomous logistics vehicles and automated systems. This marks the first large-scale integration of humanoid robots and autonomous logistics vehicles.
Ubtech Robotics, which partners with leading automakers like Geely, Audi FAW, and FAW Hongqi, has positioned its Walker S series as the most extensively trained humanoid robots in automotive factories, securing over 500 pre-orders. Their tasks include inspections, quality checks, and label applications. Beyond automotive, Ubtech’s partnerships with Foxconn and SF Express are expanding robot applications in manufacturing.
