General Motors (GM) and TWG Global have partnered with Formula 1 to launch the Cadillac Formula 1 Team in 2026. Alongside this initiative, GM will introduce an F1 power unit, aiming to establish the team as a ‘full works’ operation by the end of the decade, producing both vehicles and power units.
This marks the first new team to join the Formula 1 grid since 2016, expanding the roster to 11 teams. The venture underscores GM’s commitment to innovation, leveraging cutting-edge technology in electrification, powertrain development, software, and internal combustion engines. These advancements are expected to enhance GM’s global transportation strategies while showcasing Cadillac’s engineering and design prowess to a diverse international audience.
“Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsports, demanding unparalleled innovation and excellence,” said GM President Mark Reuss. “Joining this elite competition is an honor for General Motors and Cadillac. We are dedicated to competing with passion and integrity while elevating the sport for fans worldwide.”
Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Global’s motorsports division, echoed this sentiment: “Partnering with GM allows us to bring a dynamic American presence to Formula 1. Together, we are building a world-class team to deliver unforgettable moments for race fans globally.”
Racing legend Mario Andretti, the last American F1 Champion, will serve as a director on the team’s board. Andretti expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Formula 1 has always been my first love, and being part of this endeavor with Cadillac is a dream come true.”
The team’s operations span multiple locations, including Fishers, Indiana; Charlotte, North Carolina; Warren, Michigan; and Silverstone, England. Since announcing its Formula 1 aspirations in January 2023, Cadillac Formula 1 has assembled a highly experienced team specializing in aerodynamics, chassis development, and vehicle dynamics.
GM boasts a storied history in motorsports, with over 3,000 wins and more than 100 driver and manufacturer championships. The Cadillac Formula 1 Team represents a natural progression for the company, allowing it to showcase its engineering leadership on the world’s most prestigious racing stage.
TWG Global, a key partner in this venture, owns and operates Andretti Global, Wayne Taylor Racing, and Spire Motorsports, further solidifying its position as a powerhouse in American motorsports.
As the Cadillac Formula 1 Team prepares for its 2026 debut, it promises to bring a bold, innovative presence to the competition. By combining decades of racing expertise with cutting-edge technology, GM and TWG Global aim to redefine American involvement in Formula 1 and deliver an exciting new chapter for motorsport fans worldwide.
