According to the India Connected Consumer Report 2025 by Techarc, the country will bypass 4G technology, adopting advanced 5G connectivity and AI to turn vehicles into “smartphones on wheels.” These advancements will bring real-time data processing, enabling applications like communication tools, OTT entertainment, music streaming, vehicle diagnostics, and online shopping directly to cars.
Consumer interest in connected cars is surging, with 55% of respondents reporting recent exposure to related news or information. Additionally, 22% indicated plans to include connected cars in their smart device portfolios, highlighting a growing appetite for advanced automotive technology.
By 2025, vehicles priced at ₹20 lakh (approximately $23,674) and above will feature 5G M2M connectivity as standard, making advanced features accessible across a broader price range. Previously considered luxury, technologies like generative AI, cloud connectivity, and in-vehicle computing will become integral to improving safety, comfort, and entertainment for drivers and passengers.
India’s automotive production capacity, with 22 manufacturers producing nearly 5 million passenger vehicles annually, positions the country to emerge as a global leader in the 5G M2M Automotive market. Automotive chipset revenues have already exceeded $1.5 billion, with industry giants like Qualcomm and MediaTek leading innovation.
Consumer feedback identifies MG Motors as the current market leader in connected cars with a 21% preference, followed by Kia Motors at 18%. Tata Motors, Hyundai, and Maruti Suzuki round out the top five brands in the segment.
