Suzuki’s all-new fourth-generation Dzire sedan has achieved a significant milestone by earning a five-star safety rating from the Global New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), marking it as the first Maruti Suzuki vehicle to receive this high safety rating. Launched recently in India, the updated Dzire boasts a redesigned look along with enhanced safety features as part of Suzuki’s commitment to vehicle safety.
Maruti Suzuki voluntarily submitted the new Dzire for Global NCAP testing, where the car’s structure and footwell area were rated as stable, indicating they could withstand further loadings. In adult occupant protection tests, the driver’s chest showed marginal protection in frontal impacts, while pole tests demonstrated full head protection, and side impact tests showed full protection for adult passengers.
In child occupant safety tests, the 18-month-old dummy received full protection, while the three-year-old dummy displayed good head and chest protection, although neck protection could be enhanced with a rearward-facing child restraint system (CRS). The side impact test provided full protection for child passengers, resulting in a four-star rating for child occupant safety.
The new Dzire is equipped with six airbags, three-point seat belts for all seats, electronic stability control (ESC), and pedestrian protection as standard features—a substantial upgrade from the previous generation, which earned only two stars for both adult and child occupant protection.
David Ward, Executive President of the Towards Zero Foundation, commended Maruti Suzuki’s accomplishment, stating, “The new Dzire’s five star rating sets a significant safety benchmark for Maruti Suzuki compared to the previous version of this model and others from Maruti we have tested. Global NCAP warmly welcomes this milestone voluntary test result.”
