Slovenian car parts suppliers showcased their products at an event in Ljubljana aimed at boosting auto ties with Chinese car manufacturers as both nations seek to capitalize on opportunities in the automotive sector amid the global green transition.
The meeting highlighted the potential for stronger business ties, with Slovenia’s Economy Minister, Matjaz Han, emphasizing the need for collaboration during the transition toward a carbon-neutral society.
Han stressed that while the shift poses challenges, it also opens new business opportunities. He noted Slovenia’s decision to oppose the European Commission’s recent tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, stating that the move was made in Slovenia’s best interest after consultations with industry stakeholders.
Chinese Ambassador Wang Shunqing expressed optimism about increasing cooperation between Slovenian companies and Chinese automakers, calling for Slovenia to play a constructive role in promoting stable China-EU relations.
The Slovenian automotive industry, consisting of around 400 companies and employing over 40,000 people, contributes 10% to the nation’s GDP. Nearly 40 Slovenian companies participated in the event, showcasing components such as headlights, rotors, and commutators. Han highlighted the goal of enhancing partnerships by merging Slovenia’s technical expertise with the innovative technologies of its international partners.
Representatives from Chinese automakers, including Nio, Jiangling Motors, Tam-Europe, and ATTC, attended the meeting and are set to visit several Slovenian manufacturers in the coming days to explore further collaboration.
