Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) has introduced its all-electric eCanter truck to Singapore, marking a pivotal moment for the country’s green transport initiatives. With the first unit already handed over to a local customer, this move reinforces Singapore’s goal of transitioning all vehicles to cleaner energy by 2040.
Known as a global logistics powerhouse, Singapore is at the forefront of embracing sustainable technology. The government’s aggressive roadmap targets 60,000 EV charging stations by 2030, facilitating a shift towards electric vehicles and supporting Singapore’s vision for a greener future.
Versatile eCanter Fleet Unveiled
The eCanter, first rolled out in 2017, has established itself as a frontrunner for urban deliveries, prized for its zero emissions, ease of use, and reduced noise and vibration. Singaporean buyers will have access to four distinct variants, with gross vehicle weights spanning from 5 to 8.55 tons.
Customizable options include three battery sizes, with the largest offering a capacity of 124kWh. Charging flexibility is key: users can fully charge the truck overnight through a regular outlet or leverage a fast charger to achieve full capacity in under two hours.
Karl Deppen, President and CEO of MFTBC, expressed optimism about the eCanter’s impact in Singapore, noting its success in 38 international markets.
Fuso’s Longstanding Market Presence
Goldbell Engineering, Fuso’s trusted distributor for over 40 years, will oversee the rollout of the eCanter. The introduction of the electric model bolsters Fuso’s extensive footprint, which includes light-duty Canter trucks, medium-duty Fighters, and heavy-duty Super Greats. These vehicles, assembled at MFTBC’s Kawasaki plant, are imported into Singapore fully built.
The eCanter doesn’t just aim for efficiency—it also prioritizes safety. Cutting-edge systems such as Active Attention Assist, Active Sideguard Assist 1.0, and Active Brake Assist (ABA®5) ensure that the truck can detect nearby vehicles and pedestrians and perform emergency braking when necessary.
