Horse Powertrain, renowned for its cutting-edge low-emission powertrain systems, has joined forces with Marcopolo, South America’s largest bus manufacturer, and Brazilian electronics giant WEG to introduce the Volare Attack 9 hybrid microbus. Revealed at Lat.Bus 2024 Expo, this pioneering vehicle marks a significant milestone as the first hybrid ethanol microbus utilizing a Range Extender solution.
Slated for release in 2026, the Volare Attack 9 boasts an impressive 450 km range, setting new standards for eco-friendly transport. Fueled by domestically produced bioethanol, the microbus offers carbon-neutral mobility. Marcopolo’s leadership in adopting this technology highlights the company’s commitment to greener transportation solutions.
Patrice Haettel, Horse’s CEO, expressed excitement over the collaboration, underscoring the potential of the Range Extender technology to revolutionize sustainable transport across South America and beyond.
Horse’s Range Extender system plays a pivotal role in the Volare Attack 9. Unlike traditional hybrid powertrains, the combustion engine here powers the battery instead of directly driving the vehicle, ensuring peak efficiency and minimal emissions. With an 85kW turbocharged 1.0-litre engine tailored for bioethanol, the Range Extender further cements the vehicle’s environmental credentials.
The architecture, designed with scalability in mind, is expected to transform both light and heavy commercial vehicles, signaling a new era of low-emission mobility solutions. With operations in seven countries and production reaching 3.2 million units annually, Horse Powertrain Limited continues to push the boundaries of automotive innovation.
