Bangladesh Honda (BHL), a joint venture of Japan’s Honda Motor Company and Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation, has initiated the export of motorcycles made locally, with the first shipment of 14 Honda X Blade models dispatched to Guatemala. This bold move establishes BHL as the second Bangladeshi company, after Runner Automobiles, to enter the international motorcycle market with homegrown products.
Hiroyuki Yasunaga, Chief Production Officer at BHL, highlighted this milestone as a testament to Bangladesh’s evolving manufacturing excellence. “We are proud to showcase Bangladesh’s manufacturing excellence on a global scale and remain committed to producing world-class motorcycles that meet the rigorous standards of international and domestic markets,” Yasunaga commented, underscoring the company’s ambitions to expand the country’s footprint on the global stage.
The export strategy serves multiple purposes—enhancing local supply chains, creating job opportunities, and generating foreign revenue—all critical factors given Bangladesh’s current economic conditions. With challenges such as diminishing foreign currency reserves affecting the import of raw materials and parts essential for production, BHL has proactively sought solutions and is pushing for government support through tax reliefs and export incentives.
This shipment to Guatemala, delivered by sea, represents the first step in a broader plan to penetrate markets across South America, Central America, and Africa.
Shah Muhammad Ashequr Rahman, Chief Marketing Officer at BHL, reinforced the company’s global vision. “By leveraging our global expertise and deep understanding of the local market, we are well-positioned to meet the evolving demands of customers worldwide while driving growth and innovation within Bangladesh,” Rahman explained, signaling the company’s intent to scale operations both locally and internationally.
BHL’s foray into global markets showcases the country’s rising capabilities and sets the stage for further integration into the international manufacturing and automotive landscape. This move signals a confident stride towards expanding Bangladesh’s economic horizons while aligning with global automotive trends.
