Polestar has commenced production of its luxury SUV, the Polestar 3, at a cutting-edge facility in South Carolina, USA. This development positions the Polestar 3 as the first model in the brand’s lineup to roll off assembly lines on two continents, a move reflecting the company’s strategic vision for global expansion.
The South Carolina plant now serves customers across the United States and Europe, providing a crucial link in Polestar’s manufacturing network, which includes an established production base in Chengdu, China. This dual-continent approach bolsters Polestar’s operational agility and strengthens its presence in critical markets with rapidly accelerating demand for electric vehicles (EVs).
“Manufacturing Polestar 3 in the USA is a crucial step for us. Now we offer customers in America an electric SUV that is built in America. Exporting the South Carolina produced Polestar 3 to Europe will strengthen our business on a broader scope,” said Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar. “Polestar 3 has received superb reviews from global automotive media, with strong customer test drive interest.”
The Polestar 3, a performance-oriented SUV designed for the electric era, fuses Scandinavian aesthetics with state-of-the-art technology. Key features include centralised core computing powered by NVIDIA and an extensive suite of advanced safety systems, setting a new benchmark in the luxury EV segment.
Further diversifying its global manufacturing footprint, Polestar plans to initiate production of the Polestar 4 in South Korea by mid-2025. This expansion aligns with the brand’s asset-light strategy, leveraging the expertise, flexibility, and scalability of its partners and major shareholders.
As the automotive industry undergoes a paradigm shift towards electrification, Polestar’s strategic moves signal its intent to lead in the luxury EV market. By expanding its manufacturing capabilities across continents, Polestar positions itself to meet evolving customer demands while reinforcing its global stature.
