Iveco Group announces a cutting-edge research and development partnership with the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). Operating under the Luxembourg Ministry of Higher Education and Research, this collaboration aims to innovate sustainable and lightweight composite materials for transport applications.
Driving Sustainable Mobility
The collaboration will leverage the expertise of LIST’s Sustainable Composite Materials and Manufacturing Innovation Centre (SCMM-IC). Co-funded by the Luxembourg Ministry of the Economy and the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), SCMM-IC focuses on developing materials pivotal for achieving net zero-emission mobility. Engaging in application-driven research and innovation, SCMM-IC works closely with major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in automotive, rail, aeronautics, and space sectors.
Innovating Future Technologies
Over the next four years, Iveco Group and SCMM-IC will jointly define and develop material technologies tailored to future generations of Iveco Group’s vehicles. Initial efforts will concentrate on IVECO BUS, the urban, intercity, and tourist bus brand of Iveco Group, with plans to extend to all brands within the Group.
Benefits of Composite Materials
Composite materials offer major advantages to the transport sector. Key benefits include weight reduction, leading to enhanced fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. Furthermore, these materials will address maintenance and repairability, resulting in cost savings and extended service life compared to traditional metallic components. Integrating composite materials into vehicle design allows Iveco Group to improve performance and efficiency while lowering total cost of ownership (TCO), providing customers with sustainable and cost-effective solutions.
