In the ‘Meet Rizta’ event happened in Nagpur, attended by Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari, Ather Energy co-founder Swapnil Jain articulated a compelling vision for the future of Indian electric two-wheelers. He posited that these vehicles excel beyond international offerings in both design and technology, positioning India as a potential leader in the global electric vehicle (EV) market.
Jain’s declaration underscored the developments by Indian manufacturers and the country’s potential as a technology exporter. Jain articulated to an audience comprising community members and electric vehicle enthusiasts.
The unveiling of Ather’s new family scooter, the Rizta, along with the innovative Halo helmet, marked highlights of the event. Jain commended the Indian government’s role in propelling the EV industry forward, noting the industry’s resilience despite reduced subsidies. He further asserted that, even with trimmed subsidies, the ‘Made in India’ initiative propels the thriving.
With a reported 30% growth in EV sales last year, totaling approximately 115,000 units, Ather Energy is riding a wave of commercial success. Jain views the electric two-wheeler sector as a linchpin for advancing new technologies across multiple industries, including semiconductors, software, cell manufacturing, and energy.
The company’s optimistic outlook is bolstered by the enthusiastic reception of the Ather Rizta and its robust production capabilities, currently at 400,000 units annually. Jain also disclosed plans for penetrating the South Asian market, with Ather already operational in Nepal.
