Solaris Bus & Coach has landed remarkable contracts to supply 88 electric buses to Nobina, Sweden’s prominent public transport operator. Solaris’ mission is to provide environmentally friendly urban transport solutions, with the new fleet set to operate across SkÃ¥ne, Värmland, and Malmö by 2024 and 2025.
Nobina’s order includes articulated Urbino 18 electric buses and Urbino 15 LE electric models, the latter specifically customized for the Scandinavian market and approved for interurban services. The breakdown features 55 Urbino 15 LE electric buses for SkÃ¥ne, 15 for Värmland, and 18 Urbino 18 electric buses for Malmö.
Olivier Michard, Member of the Management Board for Sales and Marketing at Solaris, highlighted the importance of this order: “These new orders mark another significant step towards greener public transport solutions in Sweden. We are thrilled to continue our collaboration with Nobina and be a part of the implementation of zero-emission solutions also in suburban transportation. We believe it is crucial for the global transformation of mobility.”
The Solaris Urbino 15 LE electric buses for Skåne and Värmland are low-entry, three-axle models, suitable for both urban and suburban services. Each bus operates with a 240 kW central motor, drawing energy from Solaris High Energy batteries totaling over 560 kWh. This setup ensures seamless day-long operation with overnight plug-in charging. Additionally, these buses come with the Scandinavian package, featuring enhanced exterior lighting for better passenger boarding and alighting during low-light conditions.
In Malmö, the Urbino 18 electric buses boast a new modular-drive system architecture and the latest battery technology. Each bus is equipped with a 240 kW asynchronous motor and next-generation Solaris High Energy batteries mounted on the roof.
Solaris holds a leading position in Europe’s e-mobility sector, reinforced by its impressive track record of delivering the highest number of zero-emission buses since 2012. This latest contract with Nobina follows substantial agreements from last year, including 55 Urbino 15 LE electric buses for suburban services in Stockholm and 23 Solaris e-buses for VR Kristianstad.
