Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has pledged over £1 million to fortify UK police efforts aimed at dismantling organized crime syndicates specializing in vehicle theft. This substantial investment is a cornerstone of JLR’s advanced security initiative designed to confront the theft epidemic at its root.
The funding bolsters several UK police forces by equipping them with enhanced resources to monitor and counteract theft hotspots. A newly formed national policing unit, focusing on intelligence gathering, will spearhead strategies to dismantle operations at ports notorious for exporting stolen vehicles, including sought-after Range Rover models.
JLR’s contribution also extends to augmenting the investigative prowess of specialized police units. Initial pilot programs with two police forces have already led to successful vehicle recoveries and the apprehension of perpetrators.
Patrick McGillycuddy, JLR UK’s Managing Director, detailed the company’s strategy, stating, “By continuously refining our security systems and collaborating closely with the police, we stay one step ahead of evolving theft tactics and swiftly implement robust anti-theft measures.”
Beyond directly supporting police operations, JLR enhances law enforcement effectiveness by providing access to crucial vehicle location and telematics data. This information aids in the prosecution and recovery of stolen vehicles. Further, JLR has trained over 650 officers to assist in the identification and recovery of stolen vehicles and the seizure of criminal tools.
This initiative reflects JLR’s comprehensive strategy to curtail vehicle theft, which subsequently helps to moderate insurance premiums for its clients. Recent Police National Computer data reveals that new models such as the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport have a theft rate of merely 0.2%, and the new Defender stands at 0.3% since its 2020 debut.
JLR has also invested £15 million in security updates for previous-generation vehicles, ensuring they meet the highest protection standards. The introduction of Jaguar Insurance and Land Rover Insurance in October 2023 further underscores this commitment, providing competitive insurance rates to both new and existing owners, evidenced by over 46,300 quotes averaging £183 per month.
