Solaris Bus & Coach secured a pivotal contract on April 26, 2024, fortifying its presence in the Italian market with a commitment to deliver 354 buses to Rome, with options to extend this number to 322. This contract includes 110 mild hybrid and 244 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses, with potential additions pending.
Previously, Solaris won a tender by Gubielo Spa for 110 articulated mild hybrid vehicles for ATAC Roma. These Urbino 18 buses, equipped with advanced mild hybrid systems, were selected for their innovation and environmental efficiency, with deliveries scheduled for 2024.
The partnership expanded with an additional order from Gubielo Spa and ATAC Roma for 244 Urbino 12 CNG buses. Praised for their operational efficiency and reduced environmental impact, these buses are set for delivery between 2024 and 2025, and the contract includes an option for 78 more units.
Beyond supplying the buses, Solaris will also provide a decade of maintenance services, ensuring durability and performance. The total contract value, assuming full option utilization, could ascend to EUR 200 million, marking one of Solaris’s most substantial agreements.
This order continues Solaris’s long-standing engagement with Rome, beginning with 30 trolleybuses delivered between 2003 and 2004. Over 700 Solaris InterUrbino intercity buses currently operate in the Lazio region, demonstrating the brand’s significant local impact.
With over 1,800 vehicles delivered across Italy, Solaris solidifies its status as a central figure in enhancing the country’s public transportation infrastructure. This deal not only showcases Solaris’s competitive edge in tender processes but also highlights its strategic contributions to advancing sustainable urban mobility solutions across Europe.
