Iveco Bus has introduced a new hybrid variant, targeting a significant reduction of carbon emissions and operational costs within the transport sector. This initiative underscores Iveco Bus’s dedication to environmental stewardship as it broadens its array of efficient transportation solutions.
Available in three sizes—10.8, 12, and 13 meters—and both POP and LINE configurations, the Crossway Hybrid integrates core attributes that have propelled the success of the series, demonstrated by the production of over 65,000 units. This model promises an optimized ownership cost, melding high passenger and luggage capacities with energy efficiency.
Giorgio Zino, Head of Iveco Bus Europe Commercial Operations, articulated the benefits of this release: “The introduction of our hybrid technology to our Crossway normal floor will enable transport operators to benefit from a significant reduction in energy costs and CO2 emissions compared to internal combustion models.”
“It is a concrete alternative available to customers. With this addition, we further strengthen our brand’s ability to provide the widest sustainable offering on the market, confirming our strategy to drive the energy transition with a mix of technologies and consolidating our leadership as one of the key players in sustainable mobility in Europe,” he added.
The vehicle features a sophisticated hybrid system consisting of a 35 kW electrical recovery motor paired with a high-energy LTO battery (48 V) positioned atop the bus. This system supports the Euro VI Step E compliant CURSOR 9 engine during start-up and captures kinetic energy during deceleration phases. Equipped with the Voith DIWA NXT gearbox, the Crossway Hybrid ensures profound fuel efficiency and further diminishes CO2 emissions when operated with XTL (X-to-Liquid) renewable fuels.
The design of the Crossway Hybrid includes a refreshed front end that houses the new ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), aligning with the forthcoming General Safety Regulation (GSR) effective July 2024.
Iveco Bus’s enhanced product line now spans a versatile range of multi-energy vehicles, from traditional and CNG-fueled models to innovative hybrid systems, all compatible with various green fuels. This diversified lineup affirms Iveco Bus’s strategic role in facilitating the transition to sustainable public transportation solutions throughout Europe.
