Nissan’s audacious blueprint for capturing a larger slice of the automotive sphere manifests with an expansive strategy centered on India, underscoring a dedication to innovation and environmental stewardship. Unveiling ‘The Arc’ business plan, this Japanese automotive titan is set to deploy three new vehicles within the Indian market, including two SUVs destined to make significant impacts domestically and internationally.
This strategic thrust follows the disclosure of Nissan’s ambitious blueprint, targeting a global resurgence through a cascade of new model introductions and investments by 2026. This initiative aligns with Nissan’s ‘Ambition 2030’ objective of amplifying sales volumes to one million units, with a notable 30 percent expected to emanate from the AMIEO region (Africa, Middle East, India, Europe, and Oceania).
Nissan’s rollout includes 16 new zero-emission vehicles and 14 internal combustion engine (ICE) models worldwide, with the AMIEO region anticipating five electric vehicles (EVs) and six ICE cars, featuring the next-generation Leaf among the awaited launches.
Europe stands as a critical focus, with over 40 percent of sales projected to derive from Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) by 2026, highlighted by the debut of five new models like the e-Micra. The company also plans to initiate manufacturing of a novel breed of EVs with bi-directional charging capabilities in the United Kingdom, marking a significant step forward in EV technology.
Focusing on India, Nissan is poised to introduce three new Passenger Vehicles (PVs), projecting an increase in sales from 63,000 units in 2023 to a formidable 95,000 units by 2026. Among the anticipated debuts is a derivative of the upcoming Renault Duster, slated for market entry next year, accompanied by a seven-seater variant. Development is ongoing for the Magnite facelift, promising subtle cosmetic enhancements, and the X-Trail’s introduction.
The forthcoming Nissan midsize SUV, resting on the highly localized CMF-B platform, is set to rival titans like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, illustrating Nissan’s aggressive positioning within the competitive SUV arena. Speculation swirls around a Nissan variant of the Renault Triber compact MPV, indicating the company’s multifaceted strategy to seize a greater market share.
Nissan’s gaze extends beyond India; it aspires to nearly double its volumes in Africa by exporting the two midsize SUVs from its Oragadam manufacturing hub near Chennai to Africa, South Africa, and the Middle East. This global strategy not only reaffirms Nissan’s commitment to the Indian market but also showcases its ambition to dominate the international stage, propelled by innovation, sustainability, and a nuanced comprehension of regional market dynamics.
