The Tamiya Wild One, a popular radio-controlled car from the 80s, has been brought to life as the Wild One Max, a full-scale, road-legal electric dune buggy. Renowned for breathing new life into classic cars as electric vehicles, The Little Car Company has designed the Wild One Max to emulate its miniature predecessor, integrating modern enhancements for practical use.
Retailing at $35,000, the Wild One Max showcases a two-seat cockpit, abbreviated suspension turrets, and windscreen wipers. Powering this revamp are eight interchangeable battery packs, supplying a combined 14.4kWh, enabling a range of around 120 miles. Despite its lightweight design of 500kg, it manages a top speed of 62mph.
The vehicle’s off-road prowess is genuinely remarkable. With a ground clearance of 270mm, a 34.1-degree approach angle, and a 50.8-degree departure angle, it rivals the capabilities of robust vehicles such as the Land Rover Defender and Jeep Wrangler on challenging terrains.
Compliant with the L7e quadricycle regulations, akin to the Citroën Ami, the Wild One Max is available in both left- and right-hand drive options, with deliveries expected in early 2024. Its standard features list includes Cobra bucket seats with four-point harnesses, adjustable Bilstein dampers, Eibach springs, a 5.0-inch central screen, a reversing camera, and a ‘giant sticker sheet’ reflecting the original Wild One’s vintage-style decals.
For the first 100 customers, The Little Car Company is offering a Launch Edition pack that comprises a carbon fiber dashboard plaque, ‘hologram’ wheel designs, and a matching 1/10th-scale Wild One for personal enjoyment. The Wild One Max will be unveiled at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed at the Eibach stand.
The reimagination of the Tamiya Wild One as a road-legal electric dune buggy encapsulates the spirit of the classic toy, while embracing modern technology. It promises to charm both aficionados of the original miniature and those in pursuit of a distinctive, fun-to-drive electric vehicle. The Little Car Company continues to demonstrate its prowess in transforming classic cars into vehicles fit for the modern age.
