Honda has released new details about its forthcoming Prelude, confirming that the coupe will launch in Japan in September 2025, ahead of its arrival in other markets.
The American Honda subsidiary revealed that the sports coupe slated to hit dealerships this year will adopt key performance components from the renowned Civic Type R, including its suspension setup, wider front and rear tracks, and Brembo front brakes. Notably, this marks the first time the dual-axis front suspension system, originally introduced on the 2017 Civic Type R, will be featured in a non-Type R model.
The Prelude will run on an upgraded version of the e:HEV hybrid system from the Civic Hybrid, similar to that of the Accord, which combines a four-cylinder petrol engine with dual electric motors. What sets the Prelude apart is its debut of Honda’s new S+ Shift technology, designed to mimic gear changes via paddle shifters. A traditional manual transmission won’t be available, as confirmed by Honda’s global electrification lead.

The coupe sits on sleek black 19-inch alloy wheels with striking blue brake calipers. Buyers can select from a range of exterior finishes, including Moonlit White Pearl, Meteoroid Gray Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl, and Flame Red. Additionally, a special limited-edition model featuring Moonlit White Pearl paint and a contrasting black roof will be available exclusively through online sales in Japan.
The coupe flaunts sleek aerodynamic bumper extensions, a grille trim matched to the body color, a black rear spoiler, black mirror caps and emblem, and newly styled MS-051 alloy wheels with a distinctive five-double-spoke design.
The new Prelude is slated to arrive at dealerships in Japan this fall, with launches in Europe and North America to follow shortly after. Furthermore, the hybrid coupe has been officially confirmed for release in Australia in mid-2026. Pricing for each market will be revealed closer to the respective launch dates.
